What is stored in your browser when you read here, why, and how to change your mind.

The short version
Before you answer the question at the bottom of the page, nothing at all is stored and nothing is sent to anyone. We do not even load the analytics tool.
If you say yes, we use Google Analytics to see which articles get read. If you say no, we only store your answer so we do not have to ask again.
Your answer
Your answer is stored in your browser’s local storage under the key `ssg-consent`, together with the date you answered. It is not a cookie and it is never sent to us - it stays in your browser and nowhere else.
After twelve months we ask again. Consent that never expires is in practice a permanent yes, and a permanent yes is not valid consent.
If you say yes
Google Analytics 4 loads and sets two cookies. We use them to see which articles get read and roughly where visitors come from - nothing else.

What we do not do
- No advertising and no advertising cookies. The advertising parts of Google Analytics are switched off in the code.
- No profiling and nothing that follows you to other websites.
- No selling or sharing of data.
- No embeds from social media, video services or maps - those set their own cookies, and we have none.
- No link between what you read here and an account in the app. This site does not know who you are.
Who else sees the data
Google Ireland Limited processes the data on our behalf. Data may be processed in the United States under the European Commission’s EU-US Data Privacy Framework decision.
Google Analytics 4 does not store full IP addresses. The address is used to roughly determine country and region, then discarded.
Turning it off in your browser
You can also block cookies in your browser settings, or use Google’s own add-on to switch off Analytics on every website. If you answer no here, none of that is needed.
